That assumption is the most common one, and it leaves the largest opportunity untouched. Most executives think of AI as operational and their own role as strategic. But you are the person who runs your own system every day, and that system is where the biggest personal gain sits.
Most executives read about use cases and do not connect themselves to any of them. My job is strategic, they think. AI is operational.
What is missing is the reality that an executive is the master of their own daily system: the tools, the routines, the routing, the follow-up, and the enormous amount of context they carry between meetings. That is a system, and it is currently running on human memory and attention.
There is also a leadership dimension. Your job is not only to drive strategy, give permission, and encourage adoption. It is to model the behavior. An organization watches whether the person asking them to change has changed anything themselves. Leadership takes many forms, and in a period like this one, visible personal use is one of them.
